What:  3rd Annual Funfest featuring Lauren Gray Concert

Where:  Hillcrest Multipurpose Facility, Lynn Elementary Campus

What Else:  The evening will be filled with carnival games and BBQ/Burger Dinner.  Concert tickets may be bought at the elementary or high school office and cost $5 in advance or $8 at the door.  Preschool and younger will be admitted free of charge.  Seating is first come, first served and will begin at 7:30pm.  Carnival tickets are 10 tickets for $5.  BBQ/Burger tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and preschool and younger eat free.  Carnival and BBQ/Burger tickets may be purchased at the ticket booth beginning at 4:30pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Proceeds go to help fund playground accessories, food backpacks, basketball warm-ups, Screamin’ Eagle Tailgate Party, Hillcrest Funfest and other school related needs.

What:  1st Annual Remington Paschal Memorial Poker Run

Where:  George Kell’s Used Car Lot, west of town Newport

What:  Cow Drop

When:  Saturday, October 6th or rain date Saturday, October 13th

Where:  off campus location has not been determined yet

What Else:  The high school livestock team will officiate and judge.  The event will raise funds for the Southside High School Seniors 2013 Graduation Party.  The field (the size of a football field) will be laid out in 100 squares.  A regular, non-trained cow will be led to the center of the field and released.  Then the clock will count down 15 minutes for the official start.  Then whenever the cow does what cows naturally do will determine the winning square.  The one and only grand prize will be 50% of the gross ticket sales up to a maximum of $5,000.  Squares will be assigned randomly.  Winner does not have to be present to win.  You must be at least 18 years old to participate.  For more information, contact Tim Sisk at 870-613-5808.

 

What:  Book Sale

When:  Saturday, October 6th, 9:30am-1pm

Where:  Stone County Library Conference Room, Mountain View

What Else:  There is a good selection of books to choose from and they will be displayed and priced for sale.  They include fiction, nonfiction, self help, history, romance, westerns, magazines, tapes, dvds, crafts, reference, children’s books and good hardback books as well as paperback editions.  The prices start at 25 cents each.

 

What:  Poke Float and Clean Up

When:  Saturday, October 6th, 8am

What Else:  Anyone interested in preserving the natural beauty of Poke Bayou is urged to attend.  The public should bring canoes, kayaks and trash bags to assist with the cleanup.  Food and refreshments will be provided for volunteers at the end of the float trip.  For more information, contact Sam Cooke at 870-307-8922. 

 

What:  4th Annual Bark In The Park Doggie Extravaganza

When:  Saturday, October 6th, 10am-2pm

Where:  Riverside Park, Batesville

What Else:  The Humane Society will be celebrating the 10th birthday for their shelter facility, so come out for free cake for everyone.  Birthday gifts of dog or cat food, treats, toys and leashes will be graciously accepted.  Events planned include a blessing of the pets, running of the weenies, best dog competitions and more.  Dr. Nancy Solis will be on hand to give vaccinations, checkups, clip nails and more.  For more information, call 870-793-0090.
