What:  Free Kids Fishing Derby Family Fun Day

When:  Saturday, July 20th, 9am

Where:  Griffin Park, 45 Griffin Road, Hardy

What Else:  Open to all children 15 years and under.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, bring their own fishing poles, tackle and bait.  Prizes for biggest fish and most weight awarded by age group.  A Fishing Safety Talk is being provided by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Wildlife Officer Steve Taylor.  Free food and drinks will be provided and access to Griffin Park is free for families during the entire day.  Open fishing for everyone begins after the derby.


What:  Heartsaver CPR and First Aid Class

When:  Monday, July 22nd, 6-10pm

Where:  Alan Davis Conference Center, Batesville

What Else:  There is a fee of $40, which covers the cost of the text book and CPR card.  Register at 870-793-3351.


What: Independence County Commodity Distribution

When: Tuesday, July 23rd, 8:30am

Where:  NADC Office, 550 Oak Street, Batesville

What Else:  All applicants will need to be recertified before the distribution or on that date.  Must bring proof of income and ID.  A variety of items will be given out.  Rules for acceptance and participation in the program are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, natural origin, sex or handicap.  For more information, call 870-793-5765 extension 230.


What:  Batesville Area Radio Club Meeting

When:  Thursday, July 25th, 7pm

What:  Batesville Pageants

When:  Monday, July 28th and Tuesday, July 29th, 6pm nightly – registration 2-4pm Monday

Where:  Independence Hall, UACCB

What Else:  Seeking entries from 0 to 12 years.  Open to Independence County residents only.  Not a glitz pageant.  The entry fee is $30, or $40 if you’re entering photogenic.  Entry forms can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce, A Formal Affair, Wiggle Worms, Batesville Guard, Studio Salon and Chunky Monkeys.  For more information, contact Alicia Ritchie at 870-799-9303 or Linda Pease at 870-613-1867.


What:  ‘Jungle Jaunt’ Vacation Bible School

When:  Monday, July 29th through Friday, August 2nd, 6-8:15pm nightly

Where:  Newark Southern Baptist Church, 265 East 10th Street

What Else:  Jump into a vacation Bible school experience as big as the Amazon Rainforest.  They will be having a kick-off event on Saturday, July 27th at 10am with a bounce house, water slide and treasure hunt.

Where: Independence County Fair Grounds, Batesville

What Else: Football 101 for women only! Pick up the basics of football. There’ll be a “game day fashion show”, “tail gate” demonstrations and plenty of game day food!
