What:  Heartsaver CPR and First Aid Class

When:  Monday, September 17th, 6-10pm

Where:  Alan Davis Conference Center

What Else:  There is a fee of $25 to cover the cost of the text book and CPR card.  Register at 870-793-3351.

 

What:  Independence County Commodity Distribution

When:  Tuesday, September 18th, 8:30am

Where:  Miller Gym, 9th and Oak

What Else:  Rules for acceptance and participation in the program are the same for everyone without regard to age, sex, color, natural origin or handicap.

 

What:  Barbecue Fundraiser

When:  Tuesday, September 18th, 3:30-7:30pm

Where:  Cedar Ridge High School

What Else:  Tickets are $7 and dinner includes barbecue, coleslaw, baked beans, potatoes, roll and drink.  Money raised will be used for the school prom.

 

What:  American Red Cross Blood Drive

When:  Thursday, September 20th, 1-6pm

Where:  First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 116 East Jefferson, Mountain View

What:  Historic Games Day

When:  Saturday, September 22nd, 10am-2pm

Where:  Powhatan Historic State Park

What Else:  Some of the games offered will be old fashioned sack races, croquet, graces, marbles, tag and freeze tag, apple dunking, jump rope, jacks, yo-yos, checkers, horseshoes and more.  Bring your family, a picnic lunch and some lawn chairs and spend the day enjoying a little bit of yesteryear.  For more information, call 870-878-6765.

 

What:  Poker Run Benefit

When:  Saturday, September 22nd, 9am

Where:  FNBC Horseshoe Bend

What Else:  $20 donation per bike.  $10 donation per passenger.  $200 payout for best hand.  There will be refreshments and a free hot dog lunch for all participants.  All proceeds will be donated to the Horseshoe Bend Fire Department.

 

What:  Open House

When:  Saturday, September 22nd, 1-3pm

Where:  Izard County Historical and Genealogical Society, old hospital bldg, E. Main St, Melbourne

What:  Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? Fundraiser

When:  Saturday, September 22nd, 6:30pm

Where:  Cave City Middle School Cafeteria

What Else:  Contestants will be Mark Counts, Sharp County Sheriff; Aaron Presser, Cave City Police Chief and Coach Mark Smith, Cave City Middle School Principal.  Tickets are $2 for adults, $1 for students and children under 5 are free.  There will be a concession stand and door prizes.  Prize money and funds raised will go to support the work of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Children who are in the court system due to being abused or neglected. 

 

What:  Fall Sale

When:  Saturday, September 22nd, 7am-3pm

Where:  Cushman Community Center

What:  2nd Annual Memorial Grandad William E. Beene, Jr. Car Show and Toy Drive

When:  Saturday, September 22nd, 10am-2pm, registration 9am-12noon, judging 11am, awards 2pm

Where:  260 North Main Street, Melbourne

What:  ‘Silver Ring Thing’

When:  Saturday, September 22nd, 7-9pm

Where:  Calico Rock Elementary School, 301 College Street

What:  Ozark Foothills Literacy Project Tutor Training Workshop

When:  Sunday, September 23rd, 2:30pm

Where:  Jubilee Family Church, 45 Thunderbird Drive, Batesville

What Else:  Volunteer tutors are matched with adult students who are learning to read or who are learning English.  Tutors meet with their student for two hours each week at a time and public location of their choosing.  There are students waiting for a tutor.  To register, call 870-793-5912 or email info@literacyindependence.org.
