What:  Truckload Chicken Sale

When:  Friday, October 26th, 8am

Where:  Wal-Mart parking lot, Harrison Street, Batesville

What Else:  Large breaded breast chunks will be $1.50/lb or $15/case.  Popcorn chicken will be $1/lb or $10/case.  Proceeds will help support the Christmas for Foster Children Project.


What:  Humane Society of Independence County Annual BBQ Meal Fundraiser

When:  Friday, October 26th, 11am-1pm

Where:  First United Methodist Church, Main Street, Batesville

What Else:  Meals are $6 and include Bev’s World Famous Boston Butt sandwich, baked beans, coleslaw and dessert.  Meals of 5 or more can be delivered, but must be pre-ordered by noon on Wednesday, October 24th.  For more information or to order meals for delivery, call 870-613-3045.


What:  Independence County Mass Flu Clinic

When:  Friday, October 26th

Where:  Batesville – Fire Station #3, 590 White Drive, 8am-4pm; Oil Trough – City Hall, 50 Main Street, 8am-2pm; Pleasant Plains – United Methodist Church, 6101 Batesville Boulevard, 8am-2pm

What Else:  Remember the 3 C’s – Clean (wash your hands often), Cover (cover your cough and sneeze) and Contain (stay home if you are sick).  There will be no charge on this date, but it is still very important to bring your insurance, Medicaid or Medicare cards to help the Health Department recover cost if possible.  If you insurance does not pay or you do not have insurance, then there is no cost.  For more information, contact the Independence County Health Unit at 870-793-8848.


What:  Veterans Assistance Officer Availability

When:  Friday and Saturday, October 26th and 27th, 10am-7pm

What:  1st Annual Chili Supper and Haunted House

What Else:  The chili will be served at city hall in Sulphur Rock from 5-7pm and the Haunted House will be in the city park from 5-9pm.  The residents of Spring Creek Manor will be holding a cake and pie auction after the chili supper.  Everyone is invited to attend and support the local fire department.

Where:  Starts in front of Bancorp South on Main Street

What:  Melbourne Fire Department Annual Turkey Shoot

Where:  Izard County Fairgrounds

What:  ‘The Haunted Trail’

What Else:  There will be food, puppets, bounce houses, plinko, a cake walk, a hayride, face painting and lots more games and prizes.

Where:  Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 18th and Lyon Streets, Batesville

What:  Haunted House

When:  Fri and Sat, Oct 26th and 27th, and Mon through Wed, Oct 29th-31st, 5-8pm

Where:  405 Market Street, Horseshoe Bend

What Else:  Adult admission $2 and children under 5 are free.   On Wednesday, October 31st, there will also be a Trunk or Treat in the lower level of Diamond B Mall.  Decorated or not, you can park your car and hand out treats from your trunk, pick up bed or even your hearse.  Parking will begin at 4pm and 5pm is when the fun begins.  At 6pm there will be a costume contest in the Horseshoe Bend Theatre in the lower level of Diamond B Mall.  There will be categories for both adults and children.  The Horseshoe Bend Fire Department is having a food booth and will be serving hotdogs and the theatre will have popcorn and drinks.


What:  Benefit Pumpkin Patch

What:  A burial fund has been set up at Citizens Bank for Delbert Justice.  Delbert passed away Wednesday, October 17th with Stage 4 Cancer.  All donations go toward the funeral and are greatly appreciated.

What:  2nd Annual Holiday Extravaganza

Where:  Hickingbotham-Miller Exhibit Building, Fulton County Fairgrounds, Salem

What Else:  Free admission.  Zeta Omicron Chapter or Beta Sigma Phi will have a Homemade Soup Concession during the event.  All funds raised will be used for a Modern Woodmen of American Matching Funds Project for a kitchen at the Fulton County Fair Theater Building.  The building was recently remodeled and is used by the community for a number of events including weddings, family reunions, parties, etc. 


What:  Doc, Connie and Rusty Appearance
