What:  All Rise Century Ride Fundraiser

When:  Saturday, May 18th, 8am

Where:  Batesville Department of Human Services Office, Highway 69 East, 2 miles past Wal-Mart

What Else:  The purpose is to increase interest in cycling and raise money for the Independence County DWI Court Program.  This is for riders of all skill levels and winds through the rolling hills of North Arkansas where they meet the delta.  The ride is out and back so riders may choose any distance of 1-100 miles.  There is very little flat on most of the ride, but there are no major climbs.  Registration fee includes t-shirt, drinks and refreshments.  All riders who raise $250 or more will receive a special award.  Helmets are required for all riders.  Riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  This is a supported ride – sag wagon will be available.  The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for under 18.  There will be a minimum of 4 rest stops with drinks and refreshments provided.  For more information, contact Lee Huff at 870-793-8897.

What Else:  Follow a park interpreter on the Mockernut Trail to try and find some creatures of the area and discover what kind of plants and trees grow along the lake shore.

What Else:  Join a park interpreter near the Nature Center to learn how to throw a cast net.  Try out this bait catching technique and then feed what is caught to the animals in the Nature Center.

 

What:  ‘Restoring Powhatan:  Origins of the State Park’ Program

When:  Saturday, May 18th, 10am-12noon

Where:  Powhatan State Park

What Else:  Adults are $5, children 6-12 are $3 and under 6 are free.  The theme of this year’s Arkansas Heritage Month is ‘Saving Our Heritage:  Arkansas’s Historic Structures’.  Come celebrate with us by taking a special, behind the scenes tour of five of these historic structures.  Learn about the development and decline of a steamboat town and discover the fascinating story of how these buildings were saved and painstakingly preserved.

 

What:  Gospel Singing/Spaghetti Supper/Dessert Auction Fundraiser
