What:  The Izard County Conservation District is now accepting orders for catfish, crappie, grass carp, hybrid bluegill, largemouth bass and fathead minnows.  Please call 870-368-4413 ext. 3 or stop by the Izard County Conservation District Office at 1357 East Main in the Oliver Building in Melbourne to place your order.


What:  Independence County commodity distribution at 8:30am at Miller Gym in Batesville.  All applicants will need to bring proof of income and ID.  There will be a variety of items to give out.  Rules for acceptance and participation in the program are the same for everyone without regard to age, sex, color, natural origin or handicap.


What:  Cemetery Wide Clean Up

When:  Monday, March 18th through Saturday, March 23rd

Where:  Oaklawn Cemetery, Batesville

What Else:  All flowers and decorations of value or importance need to be removed from the graves before the cleanup begins.  Items that are left on the graves will be disposed of.  Flowers and decorations may be brought back beginning Monday, March 25th.


What:  Chicago Joe Huss Memorial Ride

When:  Saturday, March 23rd, 9am

Where:  Ride begins and ends at Believers Community Church, 3645 North St. Louis, Batesville

What:  Benefit Ride and Concert

Where:  Westside High School parking lot to old Cash School gym

What:  Trivia Game Night

What:  Annual Batesville Optimist Club Oratorical Contest

When:  Monday, April 1st, 6:30pm

Where:  Rider Room, First Community Bank, Batesville

What Else:  The contest is open to area boys and girls who will be under 19 who have not graduated high school.  Depending on the number of entries, there will be boys and girls divisions.  Completed entry forms must be received no later than March 25th.  Local winners will compete for cash prizes, $100/first place, $50/second place, $25/third place.  Local first place winners will be advanced to the Zone Contest.  Zone winners will advance to District to compete for a $2,500 scholarship.  The title for this year’s contest is ‘Why My Voice Is Important’.  It is important to follow the rules to eliminate lost points or disqualification.  For more information or to get an application, see your school counselor or contact Chris Black at 870-834-2131.
