What:  Open Fall Enrollment for HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters)

What Else:  Enroll now for HIPPY.  HIPPY is a free, at-home education program for children aged 2 (if the child will be 3 by Dec. 31st), 3, 4 and 5 (if the child turns 5 after Aug. 1st).  Parents are provided free educational materials, books and supplies to work with their child at home to help lay the foundation for kindergarten.  Even if your child is in a preschool program, you may qualify for HIPPY.  For Sharp and Lawrence County, call 870-886-3212 or for Independence County, call 870-251-4024.

Where:  985 Batesville Boulevard, across from airport

 

What:  Dog Wash and Dip Rabies Clinic

When:  Saturday, August 18th, 9am-1pm

Where:  Corner Drug Store, Melbourne

What Else:  This will be the last time for this season.  Wash and dip $15.  Wash without dip $10.  Low cost rabies vaccinations and other vaccinations available.  Free hot dogs while supplies last.  See Scooby Doo.

 

What:  Fellowship Service

When:  Sunday, August 19th, 3pm

Where:  New Testament Holiness Church, 590 West Mark Street, Batesville

What Else:  Churches from around the area are invited.  Speaker will be Tony Hammack, Pastor of Jubilee Family Church.

 

What:  Annual Welcome Weekend

When:  Saturday, August 18th through Monday, August 20th

Where:  Lyon College, Batesville

What Else:  New students will be moving into their dorms.  Other events include ‘A Taste of Batesville’, which features food booths set up by area restaurants, hot air balloon rides, all-college picnic and cardboard raft race.

Where:  Woodman of the World Building, downtown Clinton, next to Tharp’s Barber Shop

What Else:  Free community health event about bioidentical hormones presented by Dr. E.J. Jones. Lunch will be provided.

 

What: NADC Head Start Recruitment

When: Through Summer

What Else: HEAD START offers: Free preschool, M-F 8-3. Free meals and snacks. Experienced, certified teachers. Kindergarten readiness. Children with disabilities also served. Apply now and bring proof of income. Child has to be 3 or 4 by August 1st.  Call 870-793-3234.

 

What:  2012 Summer and Regular Crisis Intervention Program

When:  Monday, July 9th through Sunday, September 30th or until funds are depleted

                Monday through Wednesday, 8am-11:30pm

Where:  Northcentral Arkansas Development Council, Inc., Batesville

What Else:  For applicants to be considered in a crisis situation, they are required to have received a shut-off notice from their energy supplier with a shut-off notice date to be within 7 days from the date of application.  This will be for ELECTRIC ONLY.  The following are requirements needed before applications can be taken and processed:  1. Proof of income for all household members for the previous month, including verification of any contributions from family and friends.  Applications stating income is zero must provide written statement verifying how they pay their bills.  2. Information on the date and place of current or last employment for all household members.  Any member 18 or older without a job must provide verification of unemployment.  3. Proof of child support being received.  4. Proof of utility assistance if applicant received subsidized housing.  5. A copy of an energy bill or receipt from energy supplier.
